Burglaries in the Boston Area

We are urging residents in the Boston area to take extra care following a recent increase in burglaries being reported. In several cases, suspects appear to be targeting properties with key safes and those with insecure doors or windows.

Please take a few simple steps to help protect your home and belongings:

Secure your home:
•    Always keep doors and windows locked, even when you are at home or only leaving the property for a short time.
•    Ensure that all locks are in good working order and consider upgrading them if necessary.
•    Avoid leaving windows open at night or when rooms are unattended.

Key safe safety:
•    If you use an external key safe, ensure it is police approved and fitted securely.
•    Change the access code regularly and avoid sharing the code with anyone who does not need it.

Make your property less appealing to thieves:
•    Keep valuables out of sight from windows or doors.
•    Use timer switches for lights if you are going to be out, helping make your home look occupied.
•    Ensure side gates, sheds, and garages are locked and secure.
